Dream Destination: Fiji

There are so many places in the world that I still want to visit. There are also so many places that I would love to visit again!

Fiji

One of the (many) destinations that I have yet to explore, and have always wanted to, is Fiji. Doesn't it seem like one of the most romantic places in the world? When I was younger, I always said that I would go to Fiji for my honeymoon if I ever get married. In 10/15 years when I start considering marriage (haha), I bet that still won't have changed.

I mean, look at that.

Have you ever seen anything more beautiful? I can only imagine how amazing it must be to experience all of that beauty first hand! I was pretty blown away by St. Maarten's natural beauty this winter, but Fiji seems even more breathtaking.

What To Do

SWIM. It's so painfully obvious, it just has to come first - you must spend some time taking in the sun, the sand, and the surf it you head to Fiji!

There's also great snorkeling to be done.

If you still have a few days, be sure to check out Robinson Crusoe island for fun activities and to watch some traditional Fijian dances.

Or even take a class!

Where To Stay

I've personally always loved the idea of staying in one of those hotels that's essentially a string of huts built on stilts over the water. Imagine waking up, stepping out of your door, and jumping into the refreshing ocean water.

Likuliku Lagoon Resort
Oh my gosh. To be able to stay there some day - the stuff of fantasy.

But if you're more of an adventurous than a romantic type, Fiji also has you covered.

The Poseidon Resort is for anyone who has always wanted to experience the life of the Little Mermaid and sleep under the deep blue sea, surrounded by beautiful rainbow fish and marine life.

But you had better have a royal bank account if you wish to experience the life of the princess of the sea. Though the hotel is not yet open to reservations, rates have already been set - at a prince(ss)ly $1,500 per night for a standard 550 sq. ft. suite. Or you can go whole hog if King Poseidon really is your father and rent the whole resort for $3,000,000!

Can you believe that's actually an option?

Mind = blown.

I'm sure it would be a magical experience and all, but imagine how many trips - all around the world - that you could take for that much money. I'd rather have all those trips than the one trip with the resort to myself!

Not that either one is going to happen. But hey, this is a dream vacation post! Reality doesn't belong here.

What To Eat

The days of the Cannibal Isles are over and now there are some restaurants that, beyond just keeping human flesh off of the menu, are positively vegetarian-friendly!

The Coconut Grove Restaurant in Taveuni, Fiji is a great example of place that has plenty of great seafood and vegetarian options, with an emphasis on fresh ingredients and traditional island flavors. Everything tastes better with a view!

The best part? You can get a warm brownie with vanilla ice cream and passionfruit for dessert. That sounds like an amazing taste experience!

If you don't want to sit down and wait for service, The Old Mill Cottage on 49 Carnarvon St. in Suva, Viti Levu, Fiji is the Fiji version of fast food.

You can pick traditional Fiji dishes from a display case and they're microwaved and served - not as fresh as in a restaurant, but prompt and a great option if you're eager to get back to sunning and swimming.

You can get such traditional Fiji dishes as Palusami - and there's a vegetarian Palusami option, too, with just plain veggies!

There are also papaya stands along the road that sell all sorts of super fresh fruit for fairly cheap prices!

With all the tastes, sights, and experiences that Fiji has to offer, it really is a dream destination!

What's the most beautiful place that you've ever been?

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you want to go?

What are your favorite things to experience during vacation?
