Chakralat is vegan chocolate small business based in Olympia, Washington. All of their chocolates are organic, vegan, fair trade, and sweetened with stevia - so they're diabetic- and candida-friendly! In addition to being sugar-free, gluten-free, and dairy-free, Chakralat chocolates are also soy-free. Made of organic fair trade cacao, coconut oil, and stevia, the chocolates can fit into almost any diet as a guilt-free treat (not that any treats should come with guilt).
There are several different varieties of handmade chocolates for you to choose between for your special Valentine.
Or yourself. I'm usually my own Valentine - it's great, I always get what I like! :)
Chakralat varieties include Vegan Peanut Butter Cups, Hawaiian Sea Salt Dark Chocolates, Mint Melts, Maca Peanut Butter Cups, and an Aphrodesiac Pack (featuring 1oz of each of five love-inducing delights).
The Aphrodesiac Pack sure sounds like a step up from childhood love potions...
The chocolates that I tried came conveniently packaged into little plastic bags of 1oz (one serving) each.
The chocolates were consistently dark and creamy, with no blooming or uneven distribution of cocoa.
Further, each variety came in a different unique shape, making the chocolates a visual (not just gustatory) delight.

A close second were the Smoky Chipotle chocolates.
At first there's just a hint of a smoky, spicy flavor against the base of creamy dark chocolate.
Then come the tingles.
After eating the three spicy hearts (one serving) my mouth was all tingly. I'll chalk it up to dancing tastebuds - while the spiciness was definitely strong enough (my mouth tingled for a good five to ten minutes after eating) it wasn't overpowering and it wasn't too extreme. My mouth tingled but it wasn't on fire, so the chocolates struck the perfect balance.
The other varieties were very good, too, and also struck the right balance between embracing each flavor (ie: Espresso, Hawaiian Sea Salt) and allowing the creamy dark chocolate to shine.
While these candy bars aren't Hershey's Milk Chocolate sweet (which I was glad of, as I find that a bit too sweet for my tastes) they are sweet enough. The fact that they're a little bit less sweet allows the richness of the chocolate to take the forefront more.
The flavors are all so individual and well-crafted, with layers of complexity, that this is certainly the kind of chocolate that you really must sit down to savor. Perhaps with some candles and (only if you're over 21, of course) a glass of red wine?
Whether you're buying them for yourself or a loved one, Chakralat chocolates are sure to be a hit. That they're so healthy, too, is just an added bonus!
