It's the first WIAW of 2013!
Some things don't change - Chobani and random cereal and fruit and dried fruitbowls still hold a (daily) place in my heart (and stomach)
And I still like topping cereal up as I go :)
I'm also still addicted to roasted kabocha, bars, and nut butters and pastes.
And ice cream - especially with crunchy bits.
I used to hate mint chocolate chip as a kid (my sister loved it) but it's grown on me recently.
Peanut sauce with jam on bread and a cheesy beach read = happiness :)
And I love bars!! They make trashy paranormal romances even more fun.
Nuts on lemon ice cream is so refreshing - my first Haagen Dazs cup!
After several days of really indulgent meals and not much green stuff at all, sometimes nothing hits the spot better than crisp cucumber.
For more veggie love, I had a really tasty salad rom Cafe Kiraz the other day - the Grilled Plum and Grilled Peach Salad.
Okay, so the title is a bit of a misnomer - there's no plum and the peach isn't grilled as much as saueteed. But it's pretty good.
The peaches are a little greasy and they put too much syrup on the dried cherries (they would have been just fine without any) but there's still a nice little bit of tartness under that. The almond slivers are in olive oil and the flavors work well. The greens underneath are fresh and its mesclun greens, not wimpy iceberg lettuce! I asked for extra avocado and got a whole avocado, sliced, for 95 cents extra. Not bad.
But not as great as brownies :)
I thought I was all out of VitaTops, but I found this last VitaBrownie hiding in the freezer behind a bag of frozen tortellini.
SCORE.
But new things are just as great as old favorites!
I've always been a huge fan of breakfast, but since a lot of people aren't (but breakfast is so healthy) I'm sharing some great breakfast options with you guys. Resolve to eat breakfast!
Today's awesome breakfast option is Seven Sundays All-Natural Gourmet Muesli.
Hannah and Brady, the founders of Seven Sundays, were inspired by the active, sustainable lifestyles of the Kiwi during a vacation to New Zealand. Muesli is a popular breakfast in New Zealand, so the breakfast-loving couple decided to give US breakfasts a facelift by making their own hearty, gourmet muesli.
They base the mueslis off of their favorite combinations from New Zealand, but always add their own twist. They focus on simple, whole ingredients to make mueslis that are real breakfast superstars.
There are 6g of dietary fiber in one half cup serving of muesli. That's twenty-four percent of the RDI and the equivalent of approximately 3 slices of whole wheat bread!
Unsurprisingly, a bowl kept me satisfied for several hours, all the way through to lunch. I'm ordinarily a mid-morning snacker (I have a pretty voracious appetite) but on my Seven Sundays mornings I didn't even think about food again until around 11:30 or noon.
But this definitely isn't choking down an icky breakfast to try to be healthy.
Original Muesli |
The dried fruits are sweet and delicious, the nuts and seeds are crunchy and satisfying. I'd take these chewy cherries and crunchy banana chips over leprechaun shaped marshmallows any day!
Vanilla Cherry Pecan Muesli |
I really enjoyed the big brazil nuts in the Original muesli.
Original Muesli with 2% milk |
The vanilla cherry pecan really strikes a wonderful balance between the three featured flavors and the ginger pear macadamia muesli is super unusual and super delicious! The chewy dried pears, the soft buttery macadamia nuts, and the ginger flavor that permeates the blend combined for an exotic, scrumptious treat!
I've always loved the mueslis in Germany, but these are just as good (possibly even better)!
Their muesli is a delicious, nutritious way to add breakfast to your regular routine!
Even if you already eat breakfast regularly, but your breakfasts aren't quite as nutritious (ie: Pop Tarts or Apple Jacks) I'd recommend trying these mueslis at least a few days a week. I bet your energy levels will rise!
What's your favorite breakfast?
Do you eat breakfast every day?
Have you made any resolutions this year?
