Veggies on the go!

I love love love traveling and (except during exam periods) I love my busy life. Being busy all of the time, especially when that means you're out and about, can make getting those veggies in tricky. As tasty as they are, most veggies just aren't as convenient as other staples.

When it comes down to choosing between packing a granola bar or salad, the granola bar is the easier choice. Unlike the veggies, there's no prep required, it won't go bad, you don't need to worry about refrigeration, you don't need utensils, you can eat it while rushing from place to place, it's portable, and it's easy to eat without mess or noise or smells bothering those around you.

Wouldn't it be awesome if veggies were like that, too?

The Naked Edge says they can be!

The Naked Edge makes Veggie-Gos, which are exactly what they sound like: veggies that can go, go, go anywhere with you! They're based on the fruit leather model and are flat, chewy, and portable (individually wrapped and don't require refrigeration).

It's a brilliant idea for getting those veggies in when you're busy, at school, at work, or traveling! You can keep a couple in your purse for a little vitamin punch whenever you want it - unlike fresh veggies, you don't have to worry about sticking it in the fridge at the end of the night, if you end up not eating it that day. You can just eat the next day (or week)!

There are four great flavors: Carrot Ginger, Mountain Berry Spinach, Cinnamon Spiced Beet, and Sweet Potato Pie. The beet one has seeds in it, which is a bit of textural fun!

They're all made with 1/2 a serving of fruits and 1/2 a serving of vegetables in each little produce leather (calling it a fruit leather wouldn't be accurate, since it's half veggies) and no added sugar. They're also gluten-free, for any of you who need/prefer that!

They're absolutely delicious, every bit as good as traditional fruit leathers. They're sweet enough from the natural sugars of the fruits and veggies and the veggie flavors don't overwhelm, but they are there. As for the Sweet Potato Pie, I'll preempt the inevitable question and say no, it does not taste like sweet potato pie.

It's missing the requisite butter and flour to live up to that harvest indulgence.

What it does taste like is a healthy, fruity treat with a nice sweet potato flavor. It's vaguely reminiscent of sweet potato pie, so you'll be pleased if that's all you're looking for. Just don't expect to not be able to tell the difference with your eyes closed.

My favorite is the Carrot Ginger Veggie-Go.

The combination of sweet carrot and spicy ginger is a unique (and delightful) flavor experience!
